The Trump administration reportedly pressured Romania to lift travel restrictions on Andrew and Tristan Tate, who face serious charges, including human trafficking and rape, The Financial Times reported.
Currently under judicial control in Romania, the brothers are allowed to travel within the country under specific legal conditions.
U.S. officials, including Richard Grenell, raised the issue with Romanian authorities, requesting the return of their passports. Grenell, who has supported the brothers, criticized USAID programs for targeting them.
Andrew Tate claimed the U.S. and European governments were involved in their detention and promised to expose alleged corruption. The Tates also face rape and trafficking charges in the UK, with an extradition request pending.
