The Moroccan media community was struck with grief Saturday following the death of Ayoub Errimi, a former journalist at Hespress who succumbed to illness. His passing has left a profound sense of loss among journalists and students who shared time with him at the Higher Institute of Information and Communication.
Errimi had been working for Al Jazeera from London, where he launched the distinguished podcast “Huna London.” His work included insightful interviews, such as with British historian Professor Jerry Brotton, earning high praise for its in-depth historical discussions.
Mohamed Belkacem, a close friend and former colleague at Hespress, described Errimi as “a noble brother with a kind heart,” highlighting his remarkable combination of professionalism and humanity. “His departure at such a young age is a great loss not only to his immediate family but to the larger journalistic community,” Belkacem said.
Zakaria Karti, another close friend, recounted his last visit to Errimi in the hospital, where he found him resilient and unwavering despite his suffering. “He faced his illness with pride and dignity,” Karti shared, adding that Errimi remained engaged in discussions about politics and current events until his final moments.
Errimi was also remembered fondly by his former professor, Abdelouahab Errimi, who noted his journalistic acumen and ethical approach. “Ayoub was an exceptional journalist, full of wisdom, and always maintained his integrity,” he wrote.
Messages of condolences have flooded social media, with friends and colleagues expressing their sorrow over the loss of a journalist who left a lasting impact. Widad Melhaf, a communications expert and fellow alumna, recalled Errimi’s support in connecting her with international media professionals, emphasizing his role in fostering her career.
Fellow journalist Meriam Boutouraat described Errimi as “intelligent, ambitious, and cultured,” adding that he left a beautiful mark wherever he went.
The Moroccan journalistic community, both in Morocco and abroad, continues to mourn the loss of Ayoub Errimi, celebrating his contributions to journalism and the legacy he leaves behind.
