Electricity production in Morocco increased by 2.4% in the first eleven months of 2024, following a 1.7% rise the previous year, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts.

This growth resulted from production increases in the first, third, and fourth quarters of 2024, with the first quarter growing by 3%, the third by 4.4%, and the fourth by 2.2%. However, the second quarter of 2024 saw a decline of 2.7%.

By sector, the growth by November 2024 was mainly driven by a significant 26.2% increase in renewable energy production, following a 15.2% rise in 2023. The private sector also saw a 0.9% rise in electricity production, while production from the National Office for Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE) remained nearly unchanged, with a slight increase of 0.3% after a drop of 10.3% in 2023.

Net electricity demand grew by 3.7% by the end of November 2024, following a 3.5% rise in 2023. Imported electricity saw a sharp increase of 31.4%, while exported electricity fell by 35.1%.

Electricity consumption notably rose in the first two months of the fourth quarter of 2024, driven by a 26.6% surge in sales of high, very high, and medium-voltage electricity, especially to the manufacturing sector, which saw a 51.6% increase.
