Moroccans frustrated by illegal networks blocking Spanish visa appointments

Moroccans are growing increasingly frustrated with the difficulty of securing appointments for Spanish Schengen visas, according to Schengen News.

Unlike previous complaints that mostly targeted France, many are now focusing on Spain, citing issues with illegal networks that are manipulating the system.

Applicants have expressed their inability to book appointments through official channels, with the Moroccan Association for Human Rights stepping in to address the situation.

The association said that illegal networks are using advanced methods to snatch up available appointments the moment they are released.

These networks are then reselling the appointments at significantly inflated prices, making it nearly impossible for ordinary Moroccans to secure a spot through legal means.

The association said that these illegal intermediaries are selling the appointments for as much as €483, a stark contrast to the official visa fee of €90.

This huge markup has left many applicants frustrated and disillusioned with the process. The association mentioned reports of mistreatment at visa application centers operated by BLS International, although no specific details were provided.

The Moroccan Association for Human Rights has called on the authorities to take swift action to halt these illegal activities and restore Moroccans’ right to apply for visas without facing financial exploitation.

They also emphasized the violation of the freedom of movement, which many believe is being compromised by these illegal practices.

Back in November 2024, Moroccan officials acknowledged the problem and promised to take steps to combat the illegal networks.

Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was actively working on a plan to tackle the issue, alongside the EU’s diplomatic mission in Morocco.

Specific measures to address the problem have yet to be taken, leaving many applicants anxious about the future of the visa process.
