Mauritania will roll out an electronic visa (e-visa) application system starting January 5, following the country’s announcement on Friday evening.

Beginning Sunday, all travelers who are subject to visa requirements must obtain an e-visa before their trip, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad.

Travelers heading to Mauritania were previously required to obtain visas from Mauritanian embassies or consulates, or upon arrival to the country.

With the introduction of e-visa, the Ministry added, the process has been simplified thanks to the complete abstraction of procedures, while maintaining a high level of security thanks to the integration of modern digital standards.

As part of the implementation of the new procedures related to the conditions of entry into Mauritanian territory, the ministry underscored the need to submit visa applications through the official website of the National Agency for Population Registry and Secure Property (ANRPTS). This procedure cancels the need to visit Mauritanian embassies and consulates.
