Smokers in Morocco will face price changes for certain tobacco products this year, with the public sale prices of some popular cigarette brands, including Marquise, Chesterfield, Gauloises, and Camel, increasing by 0.5 to 2 dirhams.
Premium brands have largely been exempt from these price hikes.
The government has also introduced a new 50 dirham tax that will be levied on disposable e-cigarettes.
This adjustment follows the 2022 Finance Law, which set out a progressive tax scheme for tobacco products over the 2022-2026 period.
Under this scheme, the Domestic Consumption Tax (TIC) on tobacco will rise from 100 dirhams per 1,000 cigarettes in 2022 to 550 dirhams by 2026, and the minimum levy per 1,000 cigarettes will increase from 710.2 dirhams in 2022 to 953 dirhams by 2026.
