The public prosecutor’s office has decided to pursue charges with detention against four drivers of small taxis in Rabat and the driver of a private vehicle following the “road chase incident” that occurred on one of the capital’s streets last Thursday.
On Monday, the driver of the private vehicle was placed in Tamesna local prison on charges of “attempted murder, transporting passengers without a license, and reckless driving that endangered road users and caused fear and disruption.”
In the same case, four taxi drivers were also detained on charges of “blocking vehicles on a public road, obstructing and disrupting traffic, and reckless driving that endangered and alarmed road users.”
The incident unfolded last Thursday when second-category taxi drivers pursued a private vehicle driver, accusing him of transporting passengers using a ride-hailing app. This chase led to a collision in the public street, putting road users at significant risk. The event was captured in a video that circulated widely on social media.
The immediate intervention of police resulted in the arrest of the private vehicle driver and the four taxi drivers. The vehicles involved in the incident were impounded and taken to the municipal pound.
