Italian authorities have arrested three individuals, including two minors, in connection with the attempted murder of a 31-year-old Moroccan man in Perugia on December 19. The suspects, all Tunisian nationals, were captured on surveillance footage assaulting the victim in the Fontevivo area.
The sole adult suspect, a 22-year-old man, remains in custody at the Capanne prison following a hearing. He claimed self-defense, alleging that the Moroccan victim had struck him on the head with a beer bottle. However, the judge rejected a request for house arrest, citing the severity of the assault and the suspect’s actions following the attack.
According to court findings, the suspect continued beating the victim in the face with his fists and a tomato sauce bottle after the victim lost consciousness. The judge emphasized that the suspect’s actions could have been fatal and noted that he fled the scene, increasing the risk of flight.
The two minors, aged 15 and 17, have been placed in a juvenile correctional facility in Florence. Although they expressed regret and downplayed their involvement in the assault, the judge ruled against their release into an open community, citing the potential risk of escape.
The investigation highlights the gravity of the incident, which has drawn attention to issues of violent crime involving young offenders in Italy. Authorities are continuing to monitor the case as it progresses through the legal system.
