Some 200 aquaculture farms have been set up in 2024 in Morocco’s regions, with production eventually estimated to exceed 124,000 tonnes per year, according to the Secretary of State for Fisheries.
“In 2024, 322 agreements to create and exploit aquaculture farms were published in the Official Gazette. Among these projects, 200 farms have been set up in the Kingdom’s regions, with production eventually estimated to exceed 124,000 tons per year and 5,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs to be created,” the Secretariat of State said in a press release on the 24th session of the Board of Directors of the National Aquaculture Development Agency (ANDA), chaired by Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, in charge of Fisheries, Zakia Driouich.
During this session, ANDA approved and prepared for the implementation of two financing programs in partnership with international lenders, the same source added.
These programs, which have mobilized an overall budget of MAD 300 million, divided between MAD 100 million for the first and MAD 200 million for the second, aim to support aquaculture projects and stimulate the development of the sector.
With regard to solidarity-based aquaculture, ANDA has placed particular emphasis on supporting young entrepreneurs, thus ensuring the success of their initiatives. To this end, 112 social and solidarity-based projects have benefited from financial support amounting to MAD 164 million.
