President Emmanuel Macron spoke on Wednesday by phone with King Mohammed VI to thank him for the success of the mediation that enabled the release of four French citizens who had been detained for a year in Burkina Faso.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad confirmed that, following the mediation of King Mohammed VI, Ibrahim Tarauri, President of the Republic of Burkina Faso, responded to the king’s request for the release of four French citizens who had been detained in Bouagadougou since January 2023.

A statement to the ministry confirmed that “this humanitarian initiative was made thanks to the distinguished relations that bind His Majesty the King with President Taraouri, and the ancient relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Burkina Faso.”
