Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said today that Morocco is steadfastly committed to a Libyan-led political solution during a high-level consultative meeting between Libya’s House of Representatives and High Council of State in Bouznika.

Bourita said that Morocco’s unwavering support for Libya’s stability and territorial integrity is rooted in the belief that a peaceful and unified Libya is essential for regional security.

Bourita reiterated that Morocco’s approach to the Libyan crisis is one of non-interference, respect for the Libyan people’s will, and support for legitimate Libyan institutions.

The foreign minister added that Morocco’s commitment to these principles has made it a trusted partner in the Libyan peace process.

The choice of Bouznika as the venue for the talks reflects the strong bilateral ties between Morocco and Libya, as well as the confidence that Libyan leaders have in Morocco’s impartial mediation efforts.

Bourita highlighted the significance of the Skhirat Agreement, a landmark deal brokered by Morocco in 2015, as a crucial reference point for both Libyan parties and the international community.

The Skhirat agreement, Bourita said, has contributed to a degree of stability in Libya and facilitated international engagement with the country.

Bourita acknowledged the complex regional and global context, characterized by significant shifts and foreign interference in Arab affairs.

The foreign minister expressed concern over the increasing number of Arab issues being addressed by the UN Security Council, noting the extent of external meddling in the region.

Bourita urged Libyan leaders to prioritize the formation of a unified government that can address the urgent needs of the Libyan people, including economic development, social welfare, and the preparation for credible elections.

The foreign minister said that international support for Libya’s efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability is paramount

According to Hespress sources, the delegation representing both the Libyan High Council of State and the House of Representatives comprises over 60 negotiators.

The two-day meeting will focus on finding common ground and forming a unified government that represents all political factions.

The meeting will also discuss the UN-backed initiative proposed by Stephanie Williams, which seeks to revitalize the stalled political process.

Earlier this year, two rounds of Libya peace talks scheduled to be held in Morocco were postponed due to disagreements between the political factions over electoral laws and the future leadership of Libya.
