Morocco has moved up one spot in the 2024 edition of the Network Readiness Index (NRI), ranking 76th globally. The NRI, published by the Portulans Institute in partnership with Oxford’s Saïd Business School, assesses countries on their ability to harness information and communication technologies (ICT) for development. While Morocco shows strong potential, especially in ICT adoption, the report also highlights challenges in governance and economic impact.

In the global rankings, the United States holds the top position, followed by Singapore, Finland, and Sweden. Regionally, Morocco ranks 8th in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, ahead of Iran, Egypt, and Algeria, but behind the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The index evaluates countries across four pillars: Technology, People, Governance, and Impact. Morocco excels in the Technology and People pillars, ranking 64th and 72nd respectively, reflecting notable improvements in digital infrastructure and usage. However, the country ranks lower in the Governance and Impact pillars, at 83rd and 99th, indicating challenges in translating digital advancements into economic and societal benefits.

The report stresses that Morocco has significant opportunities to strengthen its digital governance and maximize the social and economic potential of its growing digital infrastructure. With the right policies, Morocco could position itself more competitively on the global stage.
