A Tangier court has sentenced a teenage girl to 15 years in prison for the brutal murder of a 20-year-old student, Anouar, while her uncle was also convicted of obstructing justice and sentenced to 10 years.

The incident, which shocked the nation, occurred in November 2022.

The young man who studied at the Faculty of Sciences in Tangier was found murdered by his mother who came to visit him in his apartment located near his university in the Mesnana neighborhood.

On social media, people showed their sympathy and solidarity with the victim’s family through various hashtags, including #JusticeforAnouar and #WeAreAllAnouar. They condemned this “heinous” murder and demanded justice for Anouar.

The young man’s body was found to have sustained several stab wounds to his upper limbs, which after careful field research and investigations, enabled the arrest of the main suspect, according to a press release from local authorities.

Police swiftly arrested the teenage girl and her uncle.

Anwar’s mother expressed deep disappointment with the verdict, arguing it was insufficient and vowed to appeal. She questioned why the uncle wasn’t charged with complicity in the murder.
