Ali Mohamed, the lead negotiator for the African Group at COP29, expressed disappointment over the “weak and delayed” financial commitments made at the climate summit in Azerbaijan. The agreement reached at the conference commits wealthy nations to provide $300 billion annually in climate finance to developing countries.
Mohamed criticized the commitment, saying that the goal to mobilize additional funding by 2035 is “very weak, very delayed, and unclear” in terms of its execution.
“We leave Baku knowing that progress has been made in some areas, but what we have achieved is far from what we had hoped for,” Mohamed said in a statement.
