The government council approved and ratified, on Thursday, a draft decree suspending the import duty on cattle and domestic sheep.
According to a statement from the government council, the draft decree was presented by Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, on behalf of Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, responsible for the budget.
The statement clarified that this initiative follows the government’s actions last year to suspend both customs duties and VAT on cattle and domestic sheep.
The government further explained that, “To ensure the continued supply of red meat to the local market, the suspension of the import duty on cattle and sheep was extended this year, with the aim of maintaining meat availability in national markets within specified quotas.”
The statement added that, “As these quotas are no longer sufficient to meet demand, the purpose of the current draft decree is to increase these quotas to ensure the continued supply of red meat to the national market.”
