“Morocco has allocated 5.8 billion MAD in its 2025 budget to fund the purchase of equipment, weapons, and ammunition for the Royal Armed Forces, as well as to strengthen infrastructure for securing the eastern and southern borders,” revealed Abdellatif Loudiyi, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government for National Defense.
In his presentation of the national defense budget to the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccans Abroad Committee, Loudiyi mentioned that “performance credits have surged by about 464 million MAD compared to last year, while commitment credits have reached 8.7 billion MAD.”
As part of the 2025 budget proposal, Morocco plans to use the commitment credits to fund ongoing projects and contracts, cover military debt, and allocate funds for new projects aimed at “strengthening and supporting the Moroccan army’s proactive defense and security strategies.”
He highlighted the Royal Armed Forces’ efforts in securing Morocco’s land, air, and sea borders in 2024, saying, “border surveillance is one of our army’s top priorities. We mobilize both personnel and resources to patrol our 3,300 kilometers of land borders, monitor nearly 3,500 kilometers of coastline, and protect our airspace from any suspicious breaches.”
Loudiyi explained that “the Royal Army uses a system to monitor the land borders, with resources deployed at fixed points and support stations across various regions. This also includes surveillance of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, intervention teams, and an electronic monitoring network featuring both stationary and mobile radars, optical means, vibration detectors, and drones.”
He stressed that “the Moroccan army relies on a network of stationary radars to monitor airspace for any potential breaches, while the Royal Navy is constantly overseeing and countering illegal activities in Moroccan territorial waters with maritime radars and intervention units stationed along the coast.”
He also added, “the Royal Gendarmerie plays an important role in securing the borders against all threats, while providing support in land, air, and sea operations.”
