Florida residents are calling for an unexpected name to fill the vacant Senate seat left by Marco Rubio’s appointment as Secretary of State in the new Trump administration: Pitbull.
The international music sensation, Armando “Pitbull” Perez, best known for hits like “Timber” and “Give Me Everything,” is now the subject of an online movement urging Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint him as the state’s next senator.
The call for Pitbull comes as DeSantis faces the crucial task of selecting a replacement for Rubio, who won’t be up for re-election until 2028.
While a number of political figures like Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez and Attorney General Ashley Moody have been suggested, the idea of Pitbull stepping into the role has gained surprising traction among Floridians on social media.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if Sen. Rubio became SecState and was replaced by someone called Mr. Worldwide? pic.twitter.com/krXWqBwd6A

@GovRonDeSantis If you aren’t going to appoint yourself, have you considered @pitbull for the open senate seat?

Although it’s unclear whether Pitbull would be interested in trading his global music career for a $174,000 salary in Congress, the prospect is intriguing.
His influence as a first-generation Cuban American gives him strong cultural ties to Florida’s sizable Cuban-American population, who are typically conservative due to concerns over government overreach and the threat of communism. Pitbull has even publicly expressed his frustration with the Cuban government’s policies, further fueling speculation about his potential alignment with right-leaning values.
Despite his relatively private stance on politics, the push for Pitbull isn’t necessarily about ideology—it’s about his star power. Floridians seem to be drawn to the idea of Senator Pitbull, imagining a figure who could bring both celebrity appeal and strong cultural resonance to Washington.
