Since early this afternoon, Sunday, the regional hospital in Mediouna, located on the outskirts of Casablanca, has been treating several cases of food poisoning.

The hospital is conducting urgent medical assessments for individuals who ate meals at a fast-food restaurant in the city center.

Local sources in Mediouna said more than 50 people have sought treatment at the hospital, with some cases described as critical.

Several patients who received initial treatment have been discharged, while others are being transferred to Ibn Rushd University Hospital in Casablanca for further care.

The incident has caused a state of alert at the Mediouna hospital, with doctors and nurses working to assess the patients’ conditions. The hospital entrance has also seen a large number of concerned parents and relatives, eager to check on the patients’ well-being.

Attendees have called for stricter oversight of such establishments and for inspection teams to be sent to ensure consumer health protection.

Relatives and local activists have expressed concern that authorities are not adequately enforcing hygiene standards, allowing some establishments to neglect basic food safety practices.

Civil society groups have repeatedly called for more regular inspections and tighter regulation of fast-food outlets to reduce health risks to the public.
