The OCP Group and ENGIE have signed a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating OCP’s energy transition and actively contributing to Morocco’s efforts in this area. This Joint Development Agreement (JDA) represents a significant step towards launching several ambitious projects in renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, green ammonia, electrical infrastructure, and sustainable desalination, as well as deploying a Research & Innovation (R&I) agenda around these themes.

The partnership was signed on October 28 in Rabat in the presence of King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron. It was signed by Mostafa Terrab, CEO of OCP, and Catherine MacGregor, CEO of ENGIE, during the French president’s state visit to Morocco.

Key Projects and R&I Agenda

The JDA aims primarily to co-develop and manage four major industrial projects:

  • Renewable Energy Production: Developing a capacity to produce electricity from renewable sources, along with storage solutions to ensure flexibility in OCP’s energy network.
  • Electrical Infrastructure: Creating intra-site electrical infrastructures linked to these new renewable energy sources.
  • Green Ammonia Production: Developing the capacity for green ammonia production while exploring the feasibility of producing other green hydrogen derivatives, such as e-methanol and e-SAF.
  • Desalination for Agriculture: Developing desalination capacities for agricultural use in regions where OCP operates.

The agreement also includes deploying a research and innovation agenda to enhance the competitiveness of this collaboration and create innovative opportunities.

A Strategic Partnership for a Sustainable Future

The OCP Group, a global leader in phosphate production and plant nutrition solutions, is joining forces with ENGIE, a major international player in the energy transition, to create a unique industrial platform dedicated to energy transition. This platform will also strengthen the local industrial ecosystem by generating economic and technological opportunities and creating potential jobs.

Mostafa Terrab emphasized that this partnership reflects their commitment to sustainable growth focused on energy innovation and decarbonization. He stated, “Through this strategic alliance, we will continue to enhance OCP’s international competitiveness in renewable energies, contributing to a sustainable future for generations to come.”

Catherine MacGregor added, “This partnership with OCP embodies a shared vision for the energy transition through an integrated and diverse approach to technological solutions. Together, we will contribute to the development of low-carbon energy solutions while strengthening the Moroccan industrial ecosystem.”

The JDA also envisions the potential creation of a joint venture between OCP and ENGIE.
