French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his country’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, stating that “for France, the present and future of this region can only be under Moroccan sovereignty.”

In a speech before the Moroccan Parliament, Macron emphasized that autonomy within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty is the way to achieve a sustainable and realistic solution to this issue, a position that France will promote in international bodies.

Macron noted that this stance “is not hostile to anyone, but a call for cooperation in the region.”

He added that many stakeholders and businesses will actively seek to engage with this region through investments and sustainable initiatives benefiting the local population.

King Mohammed VI held talks with President Emmanuel Macron on Monday at the Royal Palace in Rabat.

The discussions between the leaders focused on moving towards a new phase of strong relations between Morocco and France, within the framework of a renewed exceptional partnership and a strategic roadmap for the coming years.
