Moroccan adventurer Saad Bendrioua has successfully reached the Umling La mountain pass, located on the Indian side of the Himalayas, atop a motorcycle.
Bendrioua reached the summit at 5,699 meters above sea level by crossing a mountain pass in the heart of the Himalayas, on the India-China border. Previously a high-tension military zone, the area was only opened to passage ten months ago.
“Besides the rugged terrain and the sudden drop in oxygen levels, the sharp decline in temperatures, which do not exceed -12 degrees Celsius at midday, posed a real challenge in ascending to the summit of Umling La,” Bendrioua told Hespress.
The adventurer credits his training on mountain passes in Morocco, which reach altitudes of 3,000 meters, for helping him endure this challenge.
