Quebec’s government has suspended its nurse recruitment program from certain African countries, including Morocco after requests from these countries citing concerns about the high costs of training healthcare professionals and potential manpower shortages.
Over the past two years, the province has hired approximately 1,000 nurses from the African continent, primarily from Cameroon, Morocco, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Despite allocating $65 million to the program, Quebec had expressed a desire to hire an additional 235 foreign nurses to meet its growing healthcare needs.
The Embassy of Morocco in Canada has publicly expressed satisfaction with Quebec’s decision to respect these requests.
