Higher Education Ministry announces measures for medical education amid ongoing mediation efforts
Tuesday 1 October 2024 - 10:20

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation has announced a series of measures aimed at restoring normal operations in the medical divisions of faculties of medicine and pharmacy. This decision follows extensive mediation efforts by the government, deans, and research professors.

In a statement released on Monday, September 30, the ministry confirmed that students who passed the first semester exams during the September 5, 2024 session will have the opportunity to complete their second semester exams in a special session beginning October 4.

Additionally, students taking their exams for the first time will also be able to sit for second semester exams during this special session. They will have the chance to retake first semester exams in a separate session that will be scheduled later by the colleges.

The ministry stated that “the zero point will be replaced by the points obtained in the exams of the special sessions for students who pass these exams.” It also noted that deliberations on exam results for future registrations will consider points from both regular and exceptional sessions without the requirement to complete training, which will be scheduled later.

Furthermore, the ministry announced the academic calendar for the 2024-2025 academic year. Classes for new first-year medical students will commence on September 23, 2024, while students in other levels will start on October 14.

The ministry emphasized its commitment to providing further clarification regarding the new pedagogical organization of medical training. Expanded meetings involving pedagogical committees and student participation will be held to address concerns and suggestions, ensuring a quality training experience and streamlined administrative processes.

These measures are a response to ongoing mediation by the Kingdom Mediator, aimed at addressing the needs of students who have dropped out. The ministry acknowledged that a resolution has yet to be reached with representatives of these students, and emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate pedagogical time for the upcoming academic year.

In closing, the ministry expressed gratitude to research professors and administrative staff at the faculties of medicine and pharmacy for their continuous efforts in supporting students and enhancing the medical training system in Morocco.
