Over 431,000 widows with 158,000 children living in urban and rural areas have benefited from direct social assistance, said, on Thursday, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas.

The implementation of this royal program has enabled these widows to benefit from direct social assistance set at a minimum of 500 dirhams, said Baitas during a press briefing at the end of the Council of Government’s meeting, explaining that this allowance increases progressively each year to reach 400 dirhams for each child by 2026.

He pointed out that the government had unified the procedure for accessing direct social assistance under the Unified Social Register, to enable non-custodial widows to benefit from this aid, unlike the previous system.

This aid ranges from a minimum of 500 dirhams to 1,158 dirhams, compared with 350 dirhams to 1,050 dirhams for families with 3 children attending school under the old system, he added.

Baitas also noted that this assistance would increase progressively each year, reaching 1,233 dirhams according to the number of children by 2025, with a view to reaching 1,308 dirhams by 2026.

The Minister stressed that 260 thousand widows in rural areas and 171 thousand in urban areas have benefited from direct social assistance, adding that the number of childless beneficiaries is 346 thousand widows, including 124 thousand in urban areas and 222 thousand in rural areas. Women beneficiaries with just one child numbered 20 thousand in urban areas and 17 thousand in rural areas, he said.

“There are 16,000 widows with two children in urban areas and 14,000 in rural areas, while there are 11,000 widows with three or more children in urban areas and 7,000 in rural areas,” he added.

“The number of beneficiary widows with two children is 16,000 in urban areas and 14,000 in rural areas, while those with three or more children are 11,000 in urban areas and 7,000 in rural areas,” he said.
