A neurosurgeon in Austria is under criminal investigation after reportedly allowing her 13-year-old daughter to drill into a patient’s skull during a brain surgery procedure. The incident took place in January at University Hospital Graz.

The neurosurgeon, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly guided her daughter step-by-step through the process while operating on 33-year-old Gregor R., who needed emergency surgery after suffering a head injury in a forest accident.

The Graz Public Prosecutor, Hansjoerg Bacher, confirmed that both the neurosurgeon and another doctor involved were immediately dismissed from their positions following the incident. Bacher also stated that the two doctors, along with five other medical staff members who participated in the surgery, are now being investigated for serious bodily harm.
