In a coordinated effort between the Mexican State Security Force (FESC) and the National Institute of Migration (INM), 20 Moroccans were rescued from a private residence in Mexicali, Mexico.

The operation was initiated following an anonymous tip to the emergency hotline 089, reporting individuals potentially being held against their will.

According to the tip, the citizen heard shouting coming from inside the house but was unable to understand what was being said.

Law enforcement officers, acting on the citizen’s report, converged on a property located at the intersection of Del Manantial and De La Esperanza streets in the Islas Agrarias Grupo A ejido.

Upon arrival, they discovered a group of 20 individuals who said they were Moroccans.

According to the rescued migrants, they had embarked on a perilous journey that took them from Morocco to Egypt, Madrid, Spain, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and finally, Mexico.

Their ultimate goal was to reach the United States, and they had been promised assistance in crossing the border illegally for a substantial fee. However, they lacked specific details about the arrangements.

The migrants revealed that they had been coerced into paying a significant sum of money in exchange for the promise of illegal entry into the United States.

Despite their long and arduous journey, they had limited information about the process or their final destination.

All 20 Moroccans were subsequently handed over to the National Institute of Migration for further investigation and to determine their immigration status in Mexico.

The State Security Secretariat of Baja California (SSCBC) reaffirmed its commitment to addressing public concerns promptly, emphasizing the importance of reporting emergencies through the 9-1-1 and anonymous tip lines.

U.S. government reports identify Nicaragua as a key hub for international human trafficking networks transporting migrants from Asia and Africa to North America.

These criminal organizations fly migrants into Mexicali, where they are housed in safe havens before being smuggled across the California border.
