Rahimi breaks Moroccan football Olympic record
Tuesday 30 July 2024 - 19:04

Moroccan international Sofiane Rahimi, striker for the national football team participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics, has surpassed a long-standing record set by Ahmed Fares in 1975.

Rahimi scored the second goal for Morocco in their third group-stage match at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which ended with Morocco leading 3-0 at halftime. With this goal, Rahimi extended his tally to four goals in the tournament, having previously netted twice against Argentina in the opening round and once against Ukraine in the second round.

The Al Ain striker has now eclipsed the record of Ahmed Fares, the 1975 African Gold Medalist, who scored three goals during the 1972 Munich Games against Malaysia.

Rahimi nearly missed the match against Iraq due to an injury sustained in the game against Ukraine. However, the national team’s medical staff worked diligently to ensure his recovery. Rahimi was excused from the previous day’s training session to ensure he was fully prepared for the clash against the “Mesopotamian Lions.”
