After months of diligent work, many families in Bouaboud, Chichaoua region, are preparing to return to their homes, which have been rebuilt following the September 8 earthquake that affected several regions of Morocco.
Some families have already moved into their new homes, while others are nearing completion. These efforts, supported by significant state resources, have been driven by the high directives of King Mohammed VI. The reconstruction process reflects a major step in recovery, thanks to the persistent efforts of regional authorities and the positive response from the affected communities.
In Bouaboud’s Chaaba El Ghar and Anmar villages, reconstruction is advancing steadily. Many houses that were either completely or partially damaged have reached the final stages of rebuilding. The affected residents have also been issued housing permits.
A race against time is underway to ensure that the reconstruction meets earthquake resistance and safety standards, while respecting local architectural and landscape characteristics. Efforts include using appropriate building materials and incorporating local expertise, under the close supervision of local authorities, engineers, and technical committees.
The progress extends throughout the Chichaoua region, where regional authorities have been actively involved since the disaster, ensuring the effective mobilization of resources and adherence to royal instructions.
Other affected communities, such as Adassel and Kemassa, are also seeing rapid progress in rebuilding efforts. Specialized committees are providing technical advice, and local authorities are addressing citizens’ needs by offering model architectural designs suited to the region and facilitating access to building materials through local warehouses.
Architect Zaki Mourad praised the reconstruction progress, attributing it to the coordinated efforts of regional authorities and all involved parties. “We achieved these results through collaboration and synergy under the supervision and support of the regional authorities,” Mourad said, noting that about 500 homes are expected to be ready for occupancy by September.
Resident Mina Amintagh from Chaaba El Ghar expressed her joy at returning to her rebuilt home since Eid al-Adha. She thanked King Mohammed VI, the regional authorities, and all those involved for their dedication to the reconstruction efforts.
Kitaoui Omar, another beneficiary of the reconstruction, expressed his gratitude for the financial support provided by the state, which has been crucial in rebuilding their homes. “Thanks to this support, we have been able to work tirelessly. Everything is progressing well, and we are deeply grateful to King Mohammed VI for his care and support,” he said.
