Agroup of Moroccans are refusing to return from Myanmar due to accusations of human trafficking leveled against them by the families of young men detained there.

According to sources who spoke to Hespress, six individuals currently residing in Myanmar camps resist repatriation for being allegedly involved in trafficking Moroccans to these camps in exchange for commissions, a practice that has classified them as human traffickers.

Two of the implicated individuals have been contacted, with one expressing fear of facing a judicial investigation in Casablanca.

Another is expected to return to Morocco soon, despite being suspected of involvement in the trafficking operation.

Meanwhile, the Coordination of Families of Detainees in Myanmar has confirmed the rescue of 18 young victims from the camps.

These individuals are currently in Bangkok, Thailand, undergoing immigration procedures before their return to Morocco.

Among them is a suspected accomplice in the trafficking scheme, while another accused individual has refused to return.

Karim Safir, the families’ coordinator, emphasized the primary goal of returning the young men safely from Myanmar, while stressing that legal proceedings against the suspects remain the responsibility of the judicial authorities.
