Residents in Sidi Bennour in Casablanca-Settat region and several towns in El Jadida are facing water shortages and quality issues this summer, locals told Hespress AR.
People are experiencing frequent water cuts, unpleasant taste and smell of tap water, and even a change in water color in some areas.
The situation worsens at night, with water cuts occurring after midnight. Lower floors may experience reduced water flow before it cuts off completely, leaving upper floors without water entirely.
The independent water and electricity distribution agency for El Jadida and Sidi Bennour has acknowledged the problem and recently announced planned daily water cuts from 8 pm to 8 am across all Sidi Bennour communities.
The agency blames climate change and reduced rainfall for the water shortage, which has significantly lowered dam capacity and water tables. It is urging residents to conserve water and adopt responsible water consumption practices.
