Hespress has learned from a well-informed professional source that hotel operators affiliated with the National Federation of the Hotel Industry are considering requesting “legal clarifications” regarding the Minister of Justice’s statements about the illegality of requesting marriage contracts to couples in hotels.
The hospitality professionals are “confused” about procedures to following, in light of the continued possibilities of characterizing the facts of two adults having consensual sexual relations as “preparing a den of prostitution and prostitution.”
The Hespress Ar source noted that after the trial of the owner of a hotel in Sidi Kacem with a month-long prison sentence, sector professionals are now worried about this “ambiguity and contradiction that the hotel industry is now in.”
Even though the emprisoned Sidi Kacem hotel in question was reportedly “unlisted” legally as a hospitality establishment, the case sowed worry among hoteliers and property rental professionals.
Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi had stated last month that hotel staff requesting marriage licences from couple customers was illegal and an infraction of citizens’ rights to privacy, stirring a vivid debate among Moroccan society.
