Spanish police announced on Wednesday the successful arrest of six individuals linked to a criminal gang responsible for a series of high-profile burglaries targeting luxury residences in Madrid. The targeted properties included homes owned by prominent football players.

Since July 2022, the gang has been attributed to eight burglaries, focusing on opulent residences in Madrid and nearby areas, as detailed in an official statement released by the national police.

To meticulously choose their victims, the criminals employed a sophisticated strategy, utilizing social media platforms to study photographs and videos shared by athletes and their associates, showcasing the interiors of their homes, according to the police statement.

Having identified valuable items and their specific locations, the burglars would then physically visit the targeted properties. On-site, they meticulously studied security systems, devising plans to enter the premises discreetly when the occupants were away, further highlighting the organized nature of their criminal activities.

The six individuals apprehended are facing multiple charges, including eight counts of burglary involving the use of force, a robbery with violence or intimidation, the use of forged documents, and money laundering. Notably, three of the suspects have been placed in provisional detention pending further investigation.

The police operation resulted in the confiscation of significant assets, including ten luxury watches, assorted jewelry, over 3,300 euros in cash, and two air guns. These seized items serve as crucial evidence in building a case against the criminal gang.
