One hundred days ahead of the European elections, the far-right National Rally party in France, led by its young leader Jordan Bardella, is gaining widespread support. Bardella, aged 28, kicked off his campaign on Sunday in a massive gathering in Marseille, Southeast France.
Addressing a crowd of five thousand, he blamed French leaders and the European Union for what he called “the great erasure of France,” highlighting internal decline and disintegration within Europe and globally, targeting especially “the great eraser Emmanuel Macron.”
Valérie Hayer, head of the ruling party’s list, countered, accusing National Rally of a project to weaken France and dismantle the European Union under the guise of protecting French interests.
So far, National Rally has topped all opinion polls with 30% support, according to a survey by BVA Xsight for “RTL” radio published Wednesday. In less than five years, Bardella, leading National Rally since 2021, has asserted himself in a completely renewed political scene, as Marine Le Pen prepares for the upcoming presidential elections.
