Spanish investors planning Luxury hotel in Dakhla face Polisario threats

From its headquarters in Tindouf on Algerian territory, the Polisario threatened investors who planned on building a luxury hotel in the Moroccan city of Dakhla.

A Spanish tourism company announced plans to unveil a luxurious establishment in Dakhla in May, prompting the leader of the separatist front to send a written warning to the hotel group’s head, cautioning against their endeavor.

This is not the first time the Polisario Front threatened foreign presence in the region. The Monaco-Dakar Rally in late 2023 proceeded seamlessly despite the Polisario’s menace, similar to the Paris-Dakar Rally.

“This isn’t the first instance of the separatist front resorting to terrorist threats. Such tactics mask their internal collapse within the camps and external setbacks, particularly with Spain, a crucial ally in furthering the separatist agenda,” analyst Ahmed Noureddine told Hespress AR.

Noureddine shed light on past atrocities, including attacks on civilian fishermen, forced disappearances, and documented cases of enslavement within the camps.

“It’s time for Morocco to formally classify Polisario as a terrorist group, rallying international support for its inclusion on terror watchlist,’ he called.

Abdelfattah El Fatihi, a researcher in Sahara and Maghreb affairs, likewise echoed that “these threats epitomize the Polisario’s desperation following repeated setbacks in exploiting human rights and natural resources.”

“With their negotiating position in shambles, the Front has resorted to terrorist tactics, under Algerian patronage, to deter foreign investments vital for uplifting Sahrawi livelihoods.”
