Atlas Lion Achraf Hakimi addressed a message to the Moroccan people, following the national team’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement posted to his Instagram account, Hakimi apologized for his missed penalty, which cost the Atlas Lions a chance to equalize the match against the Bafana Bafana in the 85th minute.
“I appreciate the support from the Moroccan people, especially those who came to Cote d’Ivoire. We will rise again and come back stronger,” Hakimi wrote.
Additionally, the Moroccan right-back thanked Amine Adli for his resilience and dedication to the national team, after the loss of his mother a few weeks ahead of the AFCON kickoff.
