US-based oil and gas exploration company Predator Oil & Gas recently unveiled promising developments in its Moroccan operations, including the start of the platform-free testing programme in the Guercif licence.
The Jersey-based company has just announced that the launch of the platform-free testing programme in the Guercif onshore oil and gas exploration licence is expected to take place around 29 January 2024. According to Predator & Oil, the test programme is expected to last approximately 14 days.
In a statement released on Friday, the company said that drilling of the MOU-1 well in 2021 and the MOU-3 and MOU-4 wells in 2023 had been completed with a view to platform-free testing in early 2024. In the short term, the company is focusing on supplying compressed natural gas (CNG) to the Moroccan industrial market.

A collaboration agreement has been signed with Afriquia Gaz for potential CNG gas sales of up to 50 million cubic feet per day. New drilling activities are also planned for 2024, aimed at further evaluating the MOU-4 prospect.
As previously announced, the Company’s 2024 work programme of platform-free well testing and discretionary appraisal and exploration drilling, subject to regulatory consent and approvals, is designed to incrementally increase the resource potential for evolving CNG development.
Today’s announcement of the planned commencement of platform-free testing on or around 29 January 2024 marks the first step in the process focused on evaluating specific sands within the wider Ma and TGB 2 intervals in MOU-1 and MOU-3.
“As a guide, gas flows of between 1 and 3 million cubic feet per day (mm cfgpd) from each of these wells, if successful, could potentially be sufficient to support a future CNG pilot development option,” explains Predator & Oil. Predator & Oil explains.
The company also points out that further drilling is planned for 2024 to further evaluate the MOU-4 well.
