The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdel Jalil, said that provisional statistics for the first ten months of 2023 indicate an increase in the number of deaths in traffic accidents by 9.5 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
During his presidency of the tenth session of the Administrative Council of the National Road Safety Agency, last Friday in Rabat, Abdel Jalil recalled that the analysis of statistical data on traffic accidents between the years 2022 and 2015, as a reference year for the National Road Safety Strategy, recorded a decrease in the number of deaths by 22.47 percent.
All categories combined, except the motorcycle category, witnessed an increase in the number of deaths by 31.14 percent during the same period.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, during the Administrative Council meeting, which culminated in the approval of the agency’s work program and budget for the year 2024, Abdel Jalil called for the involvement of all actors to objectively evaluate the achievements and constraints of the 2017-2026 national strategy, and then formulate a vision, goals, and work plan for the five years.
