Over the period 2019-2023, the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) has carried out 2,057 projects and actions worth 856.26 million dirhams (MDH) for the benefit of destitute people with disabilities across the country.
In a press release issued on the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons, celebrated every year on December 3, the INDH’s national coordinating body points out that the bulk of these actions, carried out through the Programme d’Accompagnement des personnes en situation de précarité (Support Program for People in Precarious Situations), include the construction and equipping of 714 specialized reception centers meeting quality standards in terms of construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment, the upgrading and fitting out of 167 reception centers to ensure their proper operation and sustainability, and the acquisition of 112 means of mobility (50.25 MDH).
A further 184.84 million dirhams has been earmarked to support the operations of center management associations, in order to deploy a center management approach that is better suited to the requirements of performance and resource pooling, adds the same source.
These initiatives also involve 24 training and capacity-building actions worth 4.68 MDH, focusing on the skills needed to provide professional support for people with special needs, including Down’s syndrome children, deaf-mute children, autistic children, blind and partially-sighted people and people with motor disabilities, continues the same source.
The coordination also stresses that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an opportunity to renew its commitment to promoting the situation of this category and helping to foster their integration into society, pointing out that it has never ceased to pay particular attention to disabled people without resources, through the implementation of numerous projects to care for them in dignified conditions.
He concluded that the celebration of this international day is also an opportunity to recall INDH’s ongoing commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and dignity of people with disabilities.
