Marrakech international film festival jury President and Oscar winner actress Jessica Chastain presented her latest film « Memory » in Morocco’s Ocre city, met with a standing ovation.
The film tells the story of Sylvia, played by Chastain, who is a social worker leading a simple life until Saul, who has dementia, interrupted her peace by falling in love with her.

Before the screening began, FIFM jury president greeted the crowd by saying « Assalamu Alaikum, » and spoke of the director, Michel Franco’s naturalist approach to directing and how amazing working with him is.

Franco asked the actress to put on her own makeup during shooting, and heavily relied on natural light throughout the film, evoking a sense of visual comfort and steering away from commercial films aesthetics.

The film received critical acclaim in the Venice film festival following its release in September, and had now gained everyone’s attention in Marrakech for featuring a unique cast and for its robust storytelling and visual artistry.
The story’s complex and mature scenes gave Chastain and the rest of the cast a perfect opportunity to demonstrate their emotional range and interpretation fluency.
The production was screened in a Gala event, with the presence of prominent national and international cinema figures who all applauded Chastain for minutes at the end of it.
