A Royal Navy unit on Thursday intercepted a boat within Moroccan waters, 240 kilometers southwest of Dakhla, carrying 62 candidates for irregular migration (38 Gambians, 22 Senegalese, and 2 Malians), according to military sources.
The boat in question, which set sail from the village of Kartong in The Gambia on October 19, 2023, was intending to reach the Canary Islands, as stated by the same source.
The rescued individuals were brought safely to the port of Dkhila, south of Dakhla, and then handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for standard administrative procedures.
