The Nigerien Foreign Ministry has denied reports suggesting that Niger had accepted Algeria’s initiative to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the country. In a statement released via the Nigerien news agency ANP.
The ministry clarified the situation following a meeting between representatives of both nations in New York on September 25.
The statement outlined Niger’s willingness to explore Algeria’s mediation proposal for a resolution, but with crucial conditions.
Niger emphasized that the duration of the transition period should be contingent upon the outcomes of the national inclusive forum and the guidelines for governance changes in the nation.
However, before these conclusions were formally established, the Algerian government released statements on social media and certain media outlets, asserting that Niger had accepted their mediation proposal, which included a six-month military-led transition period.
In response, Niger’s government refuted these claims, asserting its commitment to preserving the strong bonds of friendship and fraternity with Algeria.
