Scientists are working on building the brightest laser on earth, called Vulcan 20-20, costing £85 million, according to Mirror.

The scientists explained that a single pulse of the Vulcan 20-20 will deliver more power than the National Grid supply.

They promised that the world’s most powerful laserbeam is expected to be “a million, billion, billion times brighter” than the sun, according to the same sources.

The Vulcan 20-20 will be capable of heating matter to extreme temperatures and it is expected to outshine the “Vulcan”, which is the current brightest beam that played a crucial role in mapping how the COVID-19 virus damaged and infected cells during the pandemic.

The project is anticipated to accelerate advances in energy and batteries, with possible applications in astrophysics and cancer radiotherapy treatments.

“Reestablishing Britain as home to the world’s most powerful laser is an exciting opportunity to explore the unexplored in astronomy and physics,” British Science, Innovation, and Technology Minister, George Freeman, vents his excitement.

The Vulcan 20-20 project is funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).

Mark Thomson, Executive Chair of the Council said, “The Central Laser Facility has been a driving force behind discoveries that have advanced our understanding of diverse areas from the fundamental properties of matter under extreme conditions to the formation of stars and planets.”

Scientists said that the project will take 6 years and will be built in Oxfordshire, UK.
