Morocco and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday in Marrakech to set up an agricultural technology project in the field of aquaponics.
Initialled by the Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fishing, Mohammed Sadiki, and his Israeli counterpart, Avraham Moshe Dichter, the framework also provides for the planning and establishment of a center for agricultural studies.
In a statement to the press, Dichter said the MoU aimed to consolidate the sharing of knowledge and experience in the field of agriculture, wheat growing and water.
“It’s a big step forward for both countries”, he said, expressing his conviction that in a few years’ time, the two countries will achieve excellent results in terms of food security.
As part of the strengthening of relations between the two countries, Sadiki and Dichter held talks on the sidelines of the Second African Conference on Health Risk Reduction, which runs until September 29, focusing in particular on prospects for strengthening cooperation in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
