Morocco will host the CAF’s 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), announced the confederation today, September 27 in a press conference in Cairo.

Morocco secured the honor following an Executive Office of the Confederation of African Football meeting, where the Kingdom received a unanimous vote.

Morocco presented a strong and comprehensive application , which was presented by Faouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), to the attention of the members of the CAF Executive Office.

During the past few weeks, Morocco has begun opening major works on a group of football stadiums in order to rehabilitate and develop them to be ready to host the next African Cup of Nations, as well as to strengthen its joint candidacy application with Spain and Portugal to organize the 2030 World Cup.

The Algerian Football Federation announced its withdrawal from the candidacy to host the 2025 and 2027 African Cup finals, a few hours before the name of the organizing country was revealed, but its late initiative was not accepted by the football governing body in Africa.

Yesterday, the Nigerian Football Association implicitly indicated that it was withdrawing its candidacy to organize the 2025 edition in exchange for continuing the competition to host the 2027 edition.
