Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi earned a spot in the UEFA European Champions League’s first matchday XI on Thursday.

UEFA has recognized the best performances of 11 players in the opening matches of the 2023/24 edition. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is represented by right-back Hakimi, who played a decisive role in the Paris club’s 2-0 victory over Dortmund at the Parc des Princes.

The Moroccan international scored PSG’s second goal with a brilliant display of skill, capitalizing on a well-placed pass from Vitinha inside the German team’s penalty area. After a slick one-two with the Portuguese player, Hakimi elegantly evaded Mats Hummels with a magnificent right-footed strike, then skillfully finished with the outside of his right foot past Gregor Kobel.

– Here’s the line-up for Matchday 1 of the Champions League:

Goalkeeper: Ivan Provedel (Lazio).

Defenders: Achraf Hakimi (Paris), Strahinja Pavlović (Salzburg), Aleksa Terzić (Salzburg).

Midfielders: Galeno (Porto), Martin Ødegaard (Arsenal), Tetê (Galatasaray), Brais Méndez (Real Sociedad), Casemiro (Man United).

Forwards: João Félix (FC Barcelona), Roko Šimić (Salzburg).

The second Champions League round takes place in two weeks’ time.
