Health Ministry ensures sufficient supply of medical drugs, supplies and resources amid quake

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that rattled Morocco, volunteers and first responders on the ground raised concerns about the availability of medication for victims with chronic illnesses. 

The immediate response from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has been to ensure a continuous and robust supply of essential medical resources to address these urgent needs.

Aziz Mrabti, the Director of the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, has provided reassuring updates on these ongoing efforts to support earthquake victims. 

Since the early hours following the catastrophe and up to the present, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has dispatched approximately 400 tons of medicines and medical supplies. Mrabti emphasized that there is currently no shortage of these vital resources.

In an interview with Hespress AR, Mrabti highlighted that “there is no shortage of medicines and medical supplies at present.” He pointed out that “from the very outset, in accordance with royal directives, the strategic plan for stockpiling medicines and health supplies was immediately put into action.”

Mrabti also revealed that, in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection swiftly dispatched 200 tons of medicines and medical supplies to all affected areas. 

An additional 100 tons were sent the following Monday to bolster the stockpile, with another 100 tons dispatched on Wednesday.

He stressed that the stockpile includes a broad range of medicines, including those typically used in orthopedic surgery, resuscitation, and anesthesia, along with essential medical supplies required for surgical procedures, oxygen, and more.

Mrabti assured the public that “oxygen supply has not been disrupted in any way.”

With a keen focus on maintaining a seamless distribution process, Mrabti said that “the Ministry of Health and Social Protection conducts real-time tracking of the stockpile. Whenever there is a shortfall in supply, we promptly reinforce it through coordinated efforts between regional centers and supply units in the affected areas.”
