Nasser Jabour, Director of the National Institute of Geophysics, told Morocco’s national broadcaster SNRT, that aftershocks were recorded at the epicenter of the earthquake in the Al Haouz region, but at very weak levels, which will not be perceptible to the public.
Jabour ruled out the possibility of strong aftershocks in the next few hours, saying, “No significant aftershocks expected after 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Morocco.”
The Director continued, reassuring citizens, that “there is nothing to panic about and fear at the present time,” adding that the Al Haouz region and the suburbs of Marrakesh recorded a strong earthquake, unlike the rest of the cities, who only felt its repercussions.
The National Institute of Geophysics announced that an earthquake had been recorded, Friday night, in Al Haouz region, measuring 7 degrees on the Richter scale.
