The number of cases of people infected with COVID-19 is rising crescendo in Morocco. A total of 309 cases of 9 infection have been recorded in the last seven days, while no deaths have been reported, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

After a pandemic that has affected Morocco in several ways: financially, economically and in terms of health. So where does Morocco stand today? With the approach of autumn and climatic fluctuations, cases of infection are likely to increase further.

According to Moroccan health experts, it is highly likely that COVID-19 will increase significantly over the coming weeks, especially as this is a time of seasonal flue.

Professor Mustapha Ennaji, virologist and director of the virology laboratory at Hassan II University in Casablanca, confirmed to Hespress that an increase in cases of infection is expected over the period.

The virology expert explained that the autumn season paves the way for the winter season, during which cases of the flue and other illnesses increase significantly, whether related to the respiratory system or others.

He added that the coming weeks will see a greater increase in cases of infection than is currently the case, calling for the necessary precautions and health measures to be followed to curb this situation.

He stressed that “the new mutant is not dangerous, but everyone needs to learn the lesson of the pandemic”, calling on the responsible authorities to provide beds, medicines and more to deal with these viruses.

In its weekly bulletin on the epidemiological situation covering the period from August 26 to September 1, the Ministry reports that the number of people vaccinated for the first time reached 24,923,869, those who received two doses totalled 23,425,735, while 6,886,234 people received three injections of the vaccine and 61,009 received the booster dose.

In order to avert any risk, experts recommend exercising caution and precaution, especially during large-scale gatherings, particularly for vulnerable people, those with chronic illnesses or cancer.

Consequently, in anticipation of a possible wave linked to the new ERIS sub-variant, health authorities have taken steps to reopen certain vaccination centers in Morocco. If the situation warrants, others will follow if necessary, depending on the state of progress in each prefecture.
