The civil guards of Melilla detained a French woman for trying to sneak her Moroccan brother to Andalusia by concealing him in the trunk of their car, according to Spanish media on Monday.

Civil guards discovered the individual during a search of the shipping vehicles headed for Almera by sea.

The automobile appeared to be occupied by a couple and their two young children at first, according to a spokesman for the Melilla Command.

The individual was discovered in “the spare tire hole in a fetal position and totally immobile” in the trunk of a Renault Megane model automobile with French license plates after the vehicle had been registered with the civil guards.

The individual was found in a state of numbness and joint pain. He was identified as a Moroccan-born adult male.

The man recovered after obtaining the appropriate first aid and the agents’ care.

The woman driving the car was of French nationality, told the service agents that the person found in the car was her brother, according to information provided by the Armed Institute spokeswoman.

The woman was brought before the court and charged with a crime against the rights of foreign nationals.

The suspected driver’s husband is also undergoing an investigation.
