A severed boar’s head was found positioned outside the consulate of Morocco in Biguglia, Haute-Corse.
This shocking discovery has led to the initiation of an investigation into possible “provocation to discrimination and racial hatred.”
The investigation is being conducted by the Departmental Directorate of Public Security in Haute-Corse.
The unsettling find occurred around 1:00 PM, when the decapitated head of the animal was noticed in front of the consulate’s entrance. The boar’s head was swiftly removed from the scene.
No inscriptions or claims were discovered that could provide insight into the motives behind this act.
In response, Michel Prosic, Prefect of Haute-Corse, expressed strong condemnation of the incident, labeling it “unacceptable.”
He conveyed his full support for the Consul General of Morocco and her team, as well as for the Moroccan citizens residing within the department.
Najoua El Berrak, the Consul General of Morocco in Corsica, also unequivocally denounced the incident. Responding to queries from AFP, she stressed the importance of caution and restraint in addressing the situation.
“The investigation results are not yet available. I don’t want to accuse anyone or politicize the matter. We need to remain cautious and sensible,” she stated.
Berrak shared that she had received expressions of support from several Corsican officials, including Mr. (Gilles) Simeoni, the President of the Corsican Assembly.
Given the presence of a significant Moroccan community in Corsica, the incident has raised heightened concerns.
According to a study by INSEE conducted in 2021 based on 2018 population data, Morocco ranks as the primary country of origin for foreign residents in Corsica, accounting for nearly 30% of the island’s immigrant population.
